Fernlea Residential Home

Above everything, it’s our wonderful team, who work with our Service Users so that they can achieve their goals, that makes Fernlea a true “home from home”

About Us

Fernlea is a small residential home on the outskirts of Meir, Stoke-on-Trent, within walking distance of all local amenities. We are registered to provide care for under 65’s with a range of specialist needs, including Epilepsy, Cerebral Palsy, Brain Injury, Motor Neurone Disease and Multiple Sclerosis.

The Home is a single storey, which means all rooms are on the ground floor, allowing easy access for everyone. We have good transport links and are minutes away from the A50 which leads to the M6 in approximately 10 minutes and the M1 in approximately 40 minutes.

We acknowledge and understand the cultural and ethnic diversity of our Service Users and aim to deliver care that is inculsive and sensitive to their diverse needs and backgrounds.

Our key agenda at Fernlea is making the Person Centred ethos an integral part of our culture.  We want to provide a service that promotes and supports independence and autonomy, in a way that encourages our Service Users to be able to live full lives.

We pride ourselves in offering consistent support by working hand in hand with our Service User/s and their families. Our Person Centred support plans help to build confidence and independence, thereby assisting our Service Users to realise their own goals.

Our staff strive to preserve and maintain the dignity, individuality and privacy of all Service Users within a warm and caring atmosphere and by doing so are sensitive to our Service Users changing needs. Service Users and their families are encouraged to participate in the development of their individual support plans.

Our aim is to provide practical support to ensure and enhance the quality of life for individuals with different types of health conditions. We recognize the complexity of multiple health conditions or impairments and therefore provide personalised care to meet the needs of the individual.

We have 13 single bedrooms all with internet access, telephone and television points. They are tastefully decorated and furnished, and we encourage our Service Users to bring personal ornaments, pictures and small items of furniture to make their rooms their own.

In-house activities include singing, yoga, exercise classes, etc. We have links with the local community and some activities are arranged around these. Our large gardens are perfect for enjoying sunny days, gardening, taking part in activities and enjoying social events.

Activities outside the Home revolve around individual hobbies and interests of the Service Users. General trips are decided by the Service Users at their meetings. Visits to shops, theatre, cinema, bowling and the local farm are frequently made.

We offer our Service Users delicious home cooked nutritionally balanced meals taking into account specific dietary requirements and preferences. In addition to breakfast, lunch and dinner, snacks and drinks are also offered throughout the day. Our menus change regularly to keep the choices fresh and appetising, and the menu planning is done with the involvement of our Service Users.

We have a large, welcoming lounge where our Service Users can socialise and relax in the company of others. Our Service Users are assigned a Key Worker and together they plan outside and inside activities. We have an activities room equipped with arts and crafts, games, and much more. We have a variety of in-house entertainments and activities e.g. singers, yoga, exercise class and theatre productions, to name just a few.

Specialist equipment is available for those who need it, e.g. hoists, equipment for bathrooms and showers/wet rooms and assisted toilets.

We are committed to ensuring our Service Users are able to live happy and fulfilled lives, we enable them to retain as much independence as possible and we try to make them feel at home.

This is achieved through our dedication to recruiting the right staff, working together with our Service Users, their families and representatives to deliver care and support in a way which shows genuine kindness and compassion.
